Daniel Beaty

returns to Arena Stage after performing in last season’s Emergence-SEE! (now known as Emergency) (Obie Award–Excellence in Off-Broadway Theater for Writing & Performing; AUDELCO Award–Solo Performance; and Helen Hayes Award Nominee–Outstanding Non-Resident Production and Outstanding Lead Actor). Other D.C. appearances include a White House performance and a tribute to Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis at the Kennedy Center. As a playwright, screenwriter and composer, Mr. Beaty’s work has appeared at the Public Theater, BAM, New York Theater Workshop, La MaMa, Hartford Stage, Alliance Theatre, True Colors Theater Company, Crossroads Theater Company, American Conservatory Theater, Yale University, The NAACP National Convention and The SCLC National Convention. He was also seen on the third and fourth seasons of HBO’s Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry; as a guest artist on NBC’s Showtime at the Apollo with Ruben Studdard; and on BET’s 106 & Park. As an actor, singer and poet, Mr. Beaty has worked throughout the U.S., Europe and Africa performing on TV, acting in theatrical productions, singing leading roles in operas and giving solo concerts of his own work. He is the 2004 Grand Slam Champion at the Nuyorican Poet’s Café and The Fox Networks National Redemption Slam Champion. Winner of the 2007-08 AETNA American Voices Playwright-in-Residence position at Hartford Stage, he holds a B.A. with Honors in English & Music from Yale University and an M.F.A. in Acting from the American Conservatory Theatre. He is currently creating a new series for Showtime.
